Despite his current victory at Sunday Recall Referendum, separatist forces continue to oppose his constitutional mandate and will go on strike.

"Media luna" disregards Evo Morales’ victory, and goes on civic strike

Santa Cruz, August 14 (ABI).- This Thursday, the region, called "media luna" disregarded the historical people’s support given to President Evo Morales at the repeal referendum and would go on civic strike on August 19, previously, the hunger strike that some leaders were carrying out was lifted. Also, they demanded to conduct an audit to the electoral roll and warned that in the meantime they would not accept any other electoral process.

Branco Marinkovic, president of the Civic Committee of Santa Cruz, says they made that decision because the opposing prefects and the Government keep their intransigent stances regarding Direct Taxes on Hydrocarbons (IDH Spanish acronym) and the adaptation of autonomous statutes to the new Bolivian Political Constitution.

He stated to face that fact, the civic leaders and the Prefects of Beni, Pando, Tarija and Santa Cruz decided to keep their stance regarding departmental autonomies and also they would support the initiative of the Prefecture of Chuquisaca to achieve its departmental autonomy.
