Meg Whitman Apologizes For Saying Fresno "Looks Like Crap" Then Holds Fundraiser In Fresno

The timing is not perfect but is hey Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is Fresno to stump for California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman at fund raising event.

But Meg Whitman who is in a tight race with Democrat Jerry Brown put her foot in her mouth earlier in the week.

On Wednesday morning, the San Jose Mercury News reported on its website that Whitman told the newspaper's editorial board: "Fresno looks like Detroit. It's awful."

Needless to say the god people of Fresno did not appreciate the comparison to that beleaguered city - even more lucky for Whitman is the good people of Detroit can't vote in California.

Be that as it may, Meg Whitman apologized on local radio saying "Fresno is great."

"What I was trying to communicate was Fresno, the Central Valley, has been very hard hit. As hard hit as places like Detroit. So that's what I was trying to communicate," said Whitman.

Fresno has an unemployment rate of 15%.
