NP Rank:
Melodee Hanes Nominated by Max Baucus While His Girlfriend? Photo
Melodee Hanes is back in the news again today as it is being reported that her boyfriend, Senator Max Baucus nominated her for the U.S Attorney's Office for Montana while they were in a relationship. A photo of Melodee Hanes is hard to find, but here is her Facebook photo and a more official photo.
Melodee Hanes and Senator Max Baucus are reported to have become romantically involved after Senator Baucus divorced his wife. He then nominated Hanes but she withdrew her nomination at a later date.
Senator Baucus submitted six names for nomination, and then a third party person eliminated three, leaving Hanes as one of them.
His spokesperson Ty Matsdorf affirmed the allegations that Senator Baucus nominated Melodee Hanes because of their relationship.
"While her personal relationship with Senator Baucus should in no way be either a qualifier or a disqualifier for the position, during the nomination process and after much reflection, both Senator Baucus and Ms. Hanes agreed that she should withdraw her name from consideration because they wanted to live together in Washington, D.C.," Matsdorf said.
Melodee Hanes began working for Senator Baucus in 2002. They now live together and she works for the Department of Justice.
It has yet to be determined if Senator Baucus appointed Melodee Hanes while they were in a relationship, but as Ms. Hanes has withdrawn her nomination many are wondering if the matter should just be closed now.

Barny Frank knew how to do it! Had Baucus consulted Mr. Frank prior to her appointment, she would be running the Attorney's Office by now.
