Memphis Tennessee Mayor Willie Herenton announced unexpectedly this morning that he has resigned from his post as Mayor, and he told City Council Myron Lowery of his decision this morning.
It is not known why he resigned at this time.
He will give Lowery a letter of resignation today.
After his resignation, Myron Lowery will serve as Mayor for up to 180 days, and if no general election is scheduled during that time, a special election will be called within 90 days to vote in a new Mayor.
“I am ready to serve,” said Lowery.

Here is a likely reason for Herenton to go mountain'climbing like he said: WRONGFUL DEATH OF LARRY NEAL - http://wrongfuldeathoflarryneal.com
Funny thing about secret deaths and abused detainees that occurred under the previous administration's USDOJ - they just won't stay secret, will they?
