Merit not wishful thinking key to winning high speed rail bucks

The good news about Ohio's application for federal high speed rail stimulus funds is that it was submitted on the due date last Friday, but the bad news is that the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) stressed that funds will be awarded based not on wishful thinking but the merits of the project.

Demand for HSR dollars greater than supply

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon by the FRA, Administrator Joseph C. Szabo said his agency has received numerous applications from states and groups for the development of high-speed and intercity passenger rail programs for grant funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
