I read an interesting article this morning about former professional basketball superstar Hakeem Olajuwon and his close ties to Islamic mosques with ties to terror groups, including Al-Qaeda. While that article was interesting, it was a link that appeared in the one-line mini-bio about the author of the article, Joe Kaufman, that caught my attention. It said he is a spokesman for something called the Terror-Free Oil Initiative.
I clicked on the link and found this brief description of the project’s objective on the left side of the page:
- Terror-Free Oil Initiative is dedicated to encouraging Americans to buy fuel that originated from countries that do not export or finance terrorism.
- We promote those companies that acquire their fuel supply from nations outside the Middle East and expose those companies that do not.
- We educate the American public about the oil-terrorism connection and press those in power to take the necessary steps to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy.
On the opposite side, a call for site visitors to “Ask Shell to stop doing business with Iranian terrorist regime” appears above a skull and crossbones-style Shell Oil Company logo. A click on the logo took me to a page where I could read and add my endorsement to a petition addressed to John Hofmeister, the company’s president.
The petition is well-written and contains links to several news sites offering documentation of the several points made in it. Other tabs on the site contained mostly-worthwhile information as well.
Though I don’t agree with all of the objectives of the effort, including the third objective listed in boldface above, I am inclined to support the effort.
That said, I encourage you to inspect the site and decide for yourself if you can support the Terror-Free Oil Initiative. In addition, I encourage you to share this post with others so they, too, can decide whether or not to suport the effort.
