Meth Lab Fire in Downtown Vancouver Apartment Building Across from Prestigious Sutton Place Hotel

A small kitchen fire in downtown Vancouver turned out to be a meth lab. Fire fighters entered the premises to discover crystal meth making equipment and chemicals. They quickly retreated and contacted Hazmat who arrived shortly thereafter.  The building was evacuated and hazmat is still in the process of removing the materials.

UPDATE: It's now 1 am and we're finally back in our apartments. Hazmat has left the chemicals for disposal tomorrow and possibly the next day. All the residents of the 9th floor will be evacuated all day and possibly night tomorrow while they clean out the lab. From talking with other residents, it seems the person living and operating the lab may be well known (and responsible for several car break-ins a couple of years ago), though this is unsubstantiated at this time. I'm just thankful, after 4 hours of homelessness in the cool Vancouver spring night, that I don't live on the 9th floor.

Oh my goodness!  I just moved out of that building.  What floor was it on?  I hope it wasn't floor 9.

Yeah, actually it was on the 9th floor... suite 908 i heard. What unit did you live in?

Apparently the people in the unit where the fire broke out were still there when the fire department came... not the smartest cats on the block it seems :P

I was in 903.  I'm glad I moved now!  Might explain why I was so crazy last year :D

I hope you get back into the building soon.
