The main highway between Anchorage and Fairbanks was closed for about twenty hours last night due to an overturned refrigerated methane truck.  Emergency responders dealt with the emergency very quickly and very well as there was danger of a massive explosion from the 9000 gallons of liquid methane from a jammed pressure relief valve.  The gas shipment was on its way to Fairbanks, which receives all its LNG over the road, no gas pipeline from either Prudhoe Bay or Kenai having been built as yet.  Give these trucks plenty of room.  The driver was slightly injured and is now safe and sound.

In other news, a frost warning has been issued for Fairbanks for tonight, temperatures as low as 25 in low-lying areas.  First frost was a week ago.

Update 20 Aug - The frost did not materialize here, it was 45 degrees this morning, although a few outlying areas have reported light frost.
