Mexican drug wars force police to claim asylum in US

Britain's Telegraph reports on the newest trend amongst asylum seekers in the United States: Mexican police officers claiming safe haven across the border in America, because they claim their own colleagues cannot protect them - or might even be trying to kill them. However, the asylum-seekers do not clearly fall into the internationally-recognized categories of those fleeing persecution because the state cannot or will not protect them from persecution on grounds of their race, religion, nationality, or political beliefs.
