Mexican Marine Plane Crashes at Sierra de la Laguna B.C.S.
Tragic, sad news. Are Moravan Zlin AME's adequate to patrol against narco- trafficking operations? Comparing the kind of weapons Drug dealers are using in this war.........
This is the story:
The Secretary of Marine-Army of Mexico ( Semar ) informed about the loss of one of their planes in Baja California Sur. The aircraft was on patrol, mainly against narcotraffic operations.
It was communicated that contact with aircraft Morovan Zlin, AME 405 was lost around 14: 30 hours last June 23 after its take off from Aero-Navy Base in La Paz.
The last trace of the plane registered at the radar was within the area of Sierra de Laguna, 35 nautic miles ( 53.2 kilometers) to the southeast of La Paz, Baja California Sur, the aircraft did not land at the estimated returned time.
A search plane reported spotting a column of smoke and a yellow-blue hood, characterictics of the plane's engine cover in a difficult area whic made the rescue difficult.
SEMAR informed after their access to the accident area of the death of Navy Captains José Alberto López Quiñones y Felipe Germán Escobedo Novelo.
Some of my acquaintances assisted to the funeral that took place yesterday in the city of La Paz.
SEMAR informed having 10 of these planes numbered from AME-400 to AME-409 registered at SAAM from february 1st to July 16th 2002, their characteristics make them ideal for training Navy Pilots in acrobatic maneuvers.

patgarcia, I like this story. It's good stuff. Tragic story indeed. You raise a very good question: are our weapons on par with those of criminal organizations?

Thanks for the flags and comments, it's a great tragedy, I wonder what the cause was, the planes seem very old to me.

Very very sad news for me. We took an English course with Felipe in Canada last years. He was crazy about planes, we knew that. Why life is so cruel sometimes? There is no answer.
Rest in peace my crazy mexican friend.

I've spent four months together with Felipe, living in the same house, going to the same courses, clubs and pubs, and the thing I liked most about him, among many other, was that he was always smiling. No matter what happened that smile was always there telling you that everything is going to be ok, that any problem comes with a solution, and that life is beautiful as it is. A smile that made you smile. I am terribly sorry that this smile is gone. May his soul rest in peace. My sincere condolences to his family.
I'm going to drink a glass of dark rum&coke in your memory, but I'm going to change your recipe and add a tear.

Bojan, Khaled, Nataniel,
I feel so sorry for you guys: you were part of such a small, friendly bunch. I am sure it is tough on all of you.
I too only knew Felipe as a giggling, smiley character; proud of his accomplishments, his uniform, and his family. My life was better for knowing him.

Paul,
Thanks a lot. All those words from you mean a lot to us. Sorry for not letting you know about Felipe. I only sent a message to Anna and Dan, but I forgot you. I hope that you will not take it seriously.
That's life. It sucks sometimes, but it make us stronger.
Best wishes to you, Paul.
Bojan,
