Update: Guerrero

The same group of armed men that killed a family of 4 are the same who are responsible for the murder of a Mexican diplomat visiting his family in Guerrero, 40 year old Jaime Almonte Borja a diplomat to the U.S. who worked at the consulate office for the embassy of Mexico in Chicago Illinois.

Update: At least four dead and an unestimated number of injured people were the result of an agression against a family in the vicinity of Piedra Imán, municipality of Coyuca de Catalán. The attack was perpetrated by a group of armed individuals who fired at the people present at a New Year´s celebration for no apparent reason.

Por lo menos cuatro muertos y un número incuantificable de lesionados dejó una agresión a una familia en la localidad de Piedra Imán, municipio de Coyuca de Catalán

Families living in dangerous areas of Mexico will not celebrate New Year´s Eve as usual, recent tragic murders and shoot-outs have created a permanent state of panic and anxiety.

Mazatlan Sinaloa

The Mejia family will not be together this New Year´s Eve. A total of  8 siblings and their respective families have decided to stay at their own homes and celebrate separately to avoid going out a t night.

Cd Juarez,Chihuahua

The Madrid family has decided not to celebrate this New Year´s Eve due to the escalating violence and the attacks on innocent people in the war for the territory.

La Paz Baja California

Lisset Soto Salinas has not yet been found, while local politicians are spending thousands on their campaings. It is a general belief that some of them are very closely colluded with Narcotraffick.

REDIM a non-goverment organization for children´s rights in Mexico has estimated that 1066 children have been murdered in the last three years due to the war against narcotraffick. Around 40,000 children have become orphans because of this tragic situation where impunity and corruption reign.

Awareness to this fact has not been properly or strongly enphasied. Some will wear furs this New Year Eve inspite Animal protection campaigns, maybe others will wear blood diamonds because the price was right. How many will consume drugs that have caused the death and suffering of  innocent children? How many will be delighted to celebrate in opulence not caring about all the bloodshed and pain that was paid for their fortunes.

I pray for peace, justice and transformation in my country.

My best wishes for 2011 to all  NowPublic staff, members abd friends all over the world.
