Mexico's Senate approved a bill on Tuesday decriminalizing possession of small amounts of narcotics for personal use, in order to free resources to fight violent drug cartels. The bill, proposed by conservative President Felipe Calderon, would make it legal to carry up to 5 grams (0.18 ounces) of marijuana, 500 milligrams (0.018 ounces) of cocaine and tiny quantities of other drugs such as heroin and methamphetamines.
Mexico's Congress passed a similar proposal in 2006 but the bill was vetoed by Calderon's predecessor Vicente Fox, under pressure from the United States, which said it would increase drug abuse, but now is worried by the drug-related violence along its border.

Am full of mixed feelings about the drug issue.in some ways yes legalise and free the prison cells for the more prolific criminals. Then there is the moral issue, young people will always try drugs as it has become a very large part of society all over the world. I agree with people administered drugs by a doctor for they have a reasonable idea about what they are taking. As for decriminalising soft drugs why not I say no matter what way the state goes drugs will always be available on the streets tho I do believe a lot of the drugs are tampered with to make bigger profits,so if it is legal less tampering as the drugs can be monitered. There is a few places in London where young people can have their chosen drug tested to ensure it isnt mixed with something far more detrimental to the users health.

It's bout time lady. What's taken so footin long mate?
I'm pleased w/ this decision, it will reduce crime by the hundreds, the drug cartels can focus more on their ppl now, but then again it is a 40 billion usd business.
Thank you Calderon, Im hoping the U.S. of A can follow
pz out and may all be with you
