La Paz Baja California Sur

At midnight the whole country will be celebrating the day Father Miguel Hidalgo gathered thousands of indians and mestizos to start the independence war.

On September 16th 1810 he rang the church bell and shouted a cry for freedom " El grito de Dolores" After taking several cities. He was betrayed and shot in Chihuahua.

The question that has been asked is " Shall we really celebrate?"

There are two sides to this issue:

Yes, it should be celebrated because Hidalgo´s movement changed Mexico´s society and its benefits are part of daily living.

No, it shouldn´t be celebrated because most of our indigenous people live in extreme poverty and ignorance, not much has changed for them yet many governors and politicians become extremely wealthy.

Mexico needs real freedom, freedom from corruption, freedom from injustice, freedom from ignorance, freedom from organized crime.

Then VIVA MEXICO can be proudly said.

Yes, you're right. The grito de Dolores happened in 1810.  It's a typo, probably.

That's one of our worst oppressors..... along with corrupted authorities.

I thought that the two recent Mexican presidents did a lot to fight corruption. I suppose a lot remains to be done.
