MI vs RR Scorecard - CLT20 2013 Match 1, Group A - 21 Sep 2013
Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals Live Score, Group A, T20 Match 1 of CLT20 2013 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur played on September 21, 2013.
Rahul Dravid, the Rajasthan Royals captain, won the toss and elected to field against Mumbai Indians in the opening clash of the main draw in the Champions League Twenty20 2013 at Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday (September 21).
A packed house welcomed the captains at the toss, which was delayed by 15 minutes due to a sharp shower that started a couple of hours before the scheduled start. “It’s been under the covers a bit and with the rain around, thought we’ll bowl first and restrict them,” explained Dravid.
Unlike Mumbai, who are spoilt for choice, Rajasthan had just five foreigners to choose from and Dravid said Shaun Tait’s groin niggle made it a straightforward decision while picking the playing eleven. That meant Shane Watson, Kevon Cooper, Brad Hodge and James Faulkner were the overseas players.
While Rajasthan went in with an four-pronged pace attack, Mumbai decided to play three seamers and two spinners in Pragyan Ojha and Harbhajan Singh.
“We would have batted first because that has been our strength,” reasoned Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai captain. “Our preparation has been excellent. We were in Ahmedabad for a week where we played a couple of practice matches. Today is a big day and we’re looking forward to it.”
Mumbai’s bowling, missing Lasith Malinga, still packs a punch with Mitchell Johnson in splendid recent form against England. “Malinga’s absence is a blow,” said Sharma. “We will miss him because he’s a big bowler in this format, but we’ve got guys who are capable of replacing him and this is a very good opportunity for them.”
Meanwhile, however much both teams downplay it, this match will have the Dravid vs Sachin Tendulkar narrative playing parallelly to the main contest. Tendulkar has already announced it will be his final T20 tournament while Dravid has been coy about stating the same with any finality, but he’s given several hints that this could be his final outing as a Rajasthan player too.
