Orange County Assemblyman Michael Duvall, who was caught on an open mic making sexual comments, resigned abruptly today, shortly after the legislative leaders stripped him of his committee posts this morning and launched an ethics probe of his actions. The Mike Duvall video has been all over TV and the web, showing the self-described "family values politician" bragging about having sex with a married woman, Heidi DeJong Barsuglia.
Duvall made the following statement on his website:
"I am deeply saddened that my inappropriate comments have become a major distraction for my colleagues in the Assembly, who are working hard on the very serious problems facing our state. I have come to the conclusion that it would not be fair to my family, my constituents or to my friends on both sides of the aisle to remain in office. Therefore, I have decided to resign my office, effective immediately, so that the Assembly can get back to work."

Orange County Assemblyman Michael Duvall talked about his extra-marital sex life with Heidi DeJong Barsuglia without realizing that the entire conversation was being picked up by an open-mic.
Just before the start of a committee meeting in Sacramento earlier this summer, 54-year-old Duvall started bragging to a colleague seated to his left about his sexual encounters with two lobbyists, unaware that the audio was picked up by the Legislature's in-house channel on the mic positioned in front of him.
"She wears little eye-patch underwear," said Duvall, who is married with two children. "So, the other day she came here with her underwear, Thursday. And so, we had made love Wednesday--a lot! And so she'll, she's all, 'I am going up and down the stairs, and you're dripping out of me!' So messy!"
"So I am getting into spanking her. Yeah, I like it. I like spanking her. She goes, 'I know you like spanking me.' I said, 'Yeah, that's cause you're such a bad girl.'"
Both Duvall's mistresses are reported to be married. Local media have named one as 36-year-old Heidi DeJong Barsuglia, a lobbyist for the energy company Sempra Energy and 18 years younger than Duvall. Duvall, on the other hand, is vice-chair of the Utilities and Commerce committee.
'Their relationship is the worst-kept secret in Sacramento,' said another lobbyist. 'He's old and fat. She's hot, blonde and about 20 years younger. He could have never got a woman like that before he got this job.'
Duvall, a friend of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, has been known for his conservative family values and his previous anti-gay marriage speeches.
Duvall has refused to make any comment over this scandal.
Repeatedly asked to explain his recorded sexual boasting, a red-faced Duvall fled me and another reporter, Dave Lopez of KCBS in Los Angeles, three times this afternoon in capitol hallways. He also ignored three handwritten interview requests that were delivered to him on the floor of the assembly."
Duvall represents the 72nd District, covering areas including Anaheim, Orange, La Habra, Yorba Linda, Placentia, and ullerton. He joined the Assembly in 2006, and before that he was a Yorba Linda City Councilman and a member of the Orange County Sanitation Distrct Board.

She's going to end up as the Monica Lewinsky of California, as she was having an affair with the married Representative Michael Duvall, a noted family values Republican. Oh, and she's married too – likely, soon it will be that she WAS. After the whole Heidi DeJong Barsuglia affair, Duvall has resigned, and will probably need an online cash advance for a lawyer – and to start paying his wife alimony.
