Michael Moore - Congratulations Mr. President - Now Earn It
There has been a lot of reaction from both the Left and the Right on the Award of the Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama. The Nobel Prize Committee chose President Obama on "Hope".
President Obama was nominated shortly after his inaugeration, which substantiates that the award was based on the "Hope of a Nuclear Free World, reconciliation with the Muslim world and getting out of two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Michael Moore has now published a letter to the President on his website
The letter in simple terms says: Congratulations President Obama on the Nobel Peace Prize - Now Please Earn It.
In the letter, Michael Moore tells the President which issues must be looked after, including the war in Afghanistan. He urges the President to make words reality or to return the Nobel Peace Prize to Oslo.
Regardless of political affiliation, it seems that most felt that that this award was premature, based on talk and not substance.
The reaction around the world was similar.
There is nothing wrong with you doing what the last guy failed to do -- capture the man or men responsible for the mass murder of 3,000 people on 9/11. BUT YOU CANNOT DO THAT WITH TANKS AND TROOPS. You are pursuing a criminal, not an army. You do not use a stick of dynamite to get rid of a mouse.
The Taliban is another matter. That is a problem for the people of Afghanistan to resolve -- just as we did in 1776, the French did in 1789, the Cubans did in 1959, the Nicaraguans did in 1979 and the people of East Berlin did in 1989. One thing is certain through all revolutions by people who wish to be free -- they ultimately have to bring about that freedom themselves. Others can be supportive, but freedom can not be delivered from the front seat of someone else's Humvee.
You have to end our involvement in Afghanistan now. If you don't, you'll have no choice but to return the prize to Oslo

I agree total with Micheal Moore in fact Micheal Moore in this case agrees with me that Obama has now got to prove now he deserves the prize. Talking is the exact answer to get peace if you can get people to the peace table.
Rid the world of nuclear weapons means USA has also got to get rid all of theirs now that's a problem that will be very hard to solve. I expect it will just be down sizing whilst Obama's in the chair but we are yet to see.

Armies and Militaries promote fear for respect. That alone disqualifies them or people who support them for the Nobel Peace Prize.
All we have to do is throw our weapons into the incinerator and start to live. Fear controls politicans lives, and fear has no business in real objectives to peace. Obama wants people to fear him....it is not peace. He will not earn his award.. He is controlled by the secret government in the USA...the same people who killed the Kennedy's and did 911. Not only have they hijacked America.....they have now hijacked the Nobel Peace Prize.....
It is such a pity....what these people have done and are doing.

All it proves is that the Nobel Peace Prize is nothing notable of an achievement.. The very best being Mahatma Gandhi is above the Nobel Peace Prize.... Maybe they should have given it to Bush with the hope he would turn himself in for war crimes.

The nobel peace prize is nothing more than a worldwide wide joke. If Obama had any sense of humility ( which he does not ) he would refuse the prize as there are more deserving individuals. The bottom line is this, if you are left of center, socialist, and dislike america, than you can win as the prize committee likes to promote these ideas. Al Gore and his vodoo science, Jimmy do nothing carter except bash his country get the prize. Then you have a senator with 180 days experience, community organizer, do nothing but talk president get the prize, what a joke.

People still can not see the point, this has nothing to do with socialistic views of the Nobel prize judges its all to do with what has been said.
Lets take another Nobel prize winner for example he has done nothing but talk and is all most look at being the living saint of Nobel peace prize winners in fact at the very beginning he was classified as a terrorist. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
Most people that have received the Nobel peace prize have just talked about peace so what so wrong in the first black American President that was elected on a peace making related platform winning a Nobel peace prize?
In most debates I have seen today I have noted something many have missed concerning this honor served on the most powerful political leader in the world today. Its the credibility he has now at any table of peace. So far he has not given any indication that he does not want to take USA down the path of making peace with the world. he wants to end both of the wars and bring the troops home, however that task has been complicated.
My only question is whats he going to do with the prize money? No one as asked that question yet?
at 06:50 on October 10th, 2009
Obama's donating the prize money to charity, it hasn't been announced which one/s yet.
at 07:06 on October 10th, 2009
He has indicated that he prize money will go to charity. That.s number one.
Babel I disagree with your premise on Nelson Mandella. Nelson Mandella was classified as a terrorist by the apartheid regime of South Africa. World Pressure got him out of jail and he has had a long history trying to lead South Africa out of apartheid.
President Obama, regardless of your opinion, was a Senator in Illinois and campaigned for President during his tenure as Senator in the U.S. Senate.
As far as getting the US out of two wars, wrong. His campaign platform was that America took its eye off the ball in Afghanistan by going to Iraq. He campaigned to get out of Iraq but that he would strengthen the effort in Afghanistan. He backed this up by sending an additional 17,000 troops to Afghanistan very early in his Presidency.
The reaction of President Obama winning the Nobel Prize is mixed throughout the world and is not a right versus left thing, as some may want to portray it.
Even the liberal leaning Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is questioning this. So is the New York Times and even the very left leaning Michael Moore.
The nominations for this award closed ten days into Obama's presidency, need I say more.

Huffington Post posted some of the most outrageous reactions here. The most interesting probably Limbaugh taking sides with the Taliban - how patriotic of him ..
at 12:37 on October 10th, 2009
Yes. Why do these people hate America? I commented elsewhere yesterday that I think this Nobel was an award for all of America's citizens. It was in recognition of our good sense to change course from a disastrous 8 years of foreign policy. And a commitment to restoring America's prestige and moral authority in the free world. Was the award premature? Probably. Even the president was surprised by the recognition. It is not about Obama folks, it is about us as a country. United we stand, divided we fall. Some people hate this president with every fiber of their being, and will never give him credit for any positive achievements. (I hope I"m proven wrong.)

Maybe Mr Limbaugh would be more happy moving out of his cushy bed, in his nice safe high rise, with a doorman and muzak in the elevator and a limo ride to the studio.
Maybe he would sleep better to the drone of A-10's buzzing his shell of a bombed out building. No telling what it's original purpose, now a home to 15 war refugees. Bed is a pile of whatever you can find or what someone else left behind. The doorman is a 12 year old, with an automatic rifle. He got it off of a soldier, who didn't pull it out quite fast enough the last time he needed it.
If he could find a limo he wouldn't find the gas to run it or a driver who was tall enough to see past the dash.
It's very easy to slam the system that has given one more worldly goods, more rights and more security than one could earn in a lifetime, all by an accident of birth.
Mr Limbaugh, America support it or leave it.

.....Obama admits to himself that he does not deserve the award or come anywhere near the caliber of people who were honored before him.... That is if you think Henry Kissmyassinger really deserved the award....from his war crimes in the world.
I would say Obama's hands already are soaked in blood and branded as a War President...and I consider him no better than a War criminal as well. So much for the nimwits on the Norwegian Committee, and the American public who would believe he would bring the troops home, and slash the military..
No the Taliban are not a threat to world security....It is the US who is the threat to World Security...who lied about 911; lied about Saddam's connection, and point blank murdered thousands of innocent people..just for the f'' of it because GW Bush said so.....
The only lunatic's in this whole mess is the Bush people CIA nimwits....who are constantly at work now...trying to get us to forget the crimes they committed the torture they gave us..by hiding behind a black curtain.... Barack Obama....... And Obama refuses to recognize they should be held accountable......
So let's see... In order to get the Peace prize and to be praised as a good guy...one has to allow the bad guys to do their bidding.....and to calm and wipe the tears away of the victims, by telling lies he will immedaitely end the wars. Well President Obama......you did a magnificient PR BS job.....You deserve the Nobel Peace Prize for that...... Oh.....he gave the money to Charity..... Bet it wasn't to a Muslim charity. Bet it wasn't to the disaster relief efforts in Indonesia or the Phillippines at the moment.
