Michele Bachmann Drops Out of Republican Primary
Michele Bachmann Suspends Presidential Campaign
Following a disappointing finish in the 2012 Iowa Caucus, Tea Party favorite Rep. Michele Bachmann is dropping out of the Republican primary. According to an unnamed Republican official, the Michele Bachmann campaign saw "no viable way forward" after the Iowa Caucus dust settled.
Note that Michele Bachmann won the Ames Straw Poll, also held in Iowa, her home state; however, she only got 5% of the Iowa Caucus votes. This is an object lesson in the value of the Ames Straw Poll.
Rick Perry's campaign is now under a cloud of doubt: Perry garnered only 10% of the Iowa Caucus votes, and is scrapping his South Carolina campaigning schedule. Rick Perry is heading back to Texas to reassess his chances of winning the Republican nomination. [Update: Rick Perry is continuing his campaign, and will indeed travel to South Carolina.
(Rick Perry had said he wanted to be the Tim Tebow of the Iowa Caucuses. If by that he meant "losing streak", then he got his wish. Michele Bachmann also invoked the name of the Broncos QB, and it didn't help much.)
