Michele Kalina Charged With Homicide Over Infant Remains
Michele Kalina From Pennsylvania Has Been Charged With Homicide After Five Sets of Infant Remains Were Found in Her Home
She has been charged with causing the death of at least four of the five infants, whose remains were found in the nurse's aide's home back in July. Michele Kalina was already in prison on abuse-of-corpse charges, and the judge has now revoked bail after the latest charges.
According to CBS, she reportedly conceived the infants through an affair with another man who did not know she gave birth to five children; she did give away one daughter for adoption in 2003.
She does have one daughter with her husband and they had a disabled son who died ten years ago.
The remains of the infants were found in a closet by Kalina's husband and daughter; three were in a bag filled with cement, while the other two were stuffed in a cooler. It is thought that at least four of the five babies were born alive and killed after birth either by neglect, poisoning or smothering.
According to CBS affiliate KYW, Kalina at first told police she had no idea how the remains ended up in her closet, even after the husband and daughter told investigators she had told them never to look there. Later, Kalina told police she was an alcoholic subject to blackouts.
She reportedly told her husband when he asked if she was pregnant that she had cysts on her fallopian tubes that she had drained, but sometimes came back.
Her attorney has not commented on the charges, only saying that people should keep an open mind.
