A Lot of People On Twitter Think Marcus Bachmann, The Husband of Michelle Bachmann, is Gay?

The internet can be an unpleasant place for public figures and their spouses. Just ask Michelle Bachmann. The US presidential candidate is dealing with rumors and snarky remarks about her husband Marcus Bachmann. More than a few folks have insinuated that Michelle Bachmann's husband is gay.

Their proof? None really, other than Marcus Bachmann's mannerisms and his near obsession with homosexuality.

A lot of people think that Marcus Bachmann seems to protest a bit too much when it comes to homosexuality.

Marcus Bachmann has referred to homosexuals as "barbarians" who need to be "disciplined."

A few celebrities have taken aim at Michelle Bachmann's husband.

Cher voiced her displeasure at Marcus Bachmann.

Andrew Sullivan compared Marcus Bachmann to Christopher Guest's effeminate character in the film Waiting for Guffman.

Actor Dave Foley tweeted:"How can Michele Bachman [sic] be opposed to gay marriage when she is married to gay man."

James Urbaniak wrote on Tumblr: "It’s pretty much a given that the most vociferously homophobic men are usually repressing something. But, oh Mary, Michele Bachmann’s husband Marcus takes the ever-loving cake. He’s a cure-the-gay therapist out of a John Waters movie. I haven’t seen flames this high since the last California wildfire..."

No doubt some of the Marcus Bachmann gay comments are a bit offside, reinforcing stereotypes about how gays sound and behave.

At the same time, it's hard not to think that Marcus Bachmann brought much of this on himself. Bachmann's statements about homosexuality could lead some to believe that he may have something to hide.

Perhaps these Marcus Bachmann gay rumors wouldn't occur in a world where people aren't obsessed with the sexual orientation of others. Judging from his previous comments, Marcus Bachmann doesn't seem to want to live in a world like that.

Haven't many of the people who run these "cure-the-gay" clinics turned out to be sleeping with some of their clients? Where are Marcus Bachmann's boyfirends, and when will they come forward? Are they waiting until after she is nominated?
