Militants blow up bridge to halt Nato supplies

Militants have attacked a tribal area inside Pakistan, destroying a highway bridge used for the passage of NATO supplies to Afghanistan.

Militants have destroyed a key 30-meter iron bridge in the Kata Kashta area of the Jamrud Tehsil in Khyber Agency of Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas on Tuesday morning.

Suspected militants blew up a bridge near the Khyber Pass on Tuesday, cutting the main route for supplies bound for Western forces in Afghanistan, a government official told Reuters.The 30-metre iron bridge was blown up after midnight and administration officials said all traffic along the route was suspended.‘Militants blew up the bridge and it's going to take some time to fix it,’ said government official Rahat Gul. He declined to estimate how long it might take.Militants have stepped up attacks on the crucial route into Afghanistan last year in an attempt to deprive international forces fighting the Taliban of fuel and other supplies trucked in from Pakistan.
