Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - An Iskandar Muda Military Police officer was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Lhoongraya stadium in Bandar Jaya sub district, Banda Aceh, early Saturday morning.
Iskandar Muda Military Chief Maj Gen Supiadin AS said after the incident that the shooting of the Military Police officer, identified as First Sergeant Ujang, was perpetrated by two men riding on a motorcycle.
"Two military personnel and two civilians were in the same car when two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle blocked their way and shot at the car driver, First Sergeant Ujang," Supiadin said.
He said Ujang died on the spot while the two men on the motorcycle disappeared in the dark.
"From the shell of the 5.6 mm caliber bullet, we can conclude that the perpetrators used either an M-16 or an AK gun to shoot the victim, but anyway we will continue to find out the motive behind the killing," Supiadin said.
He said one of the two civilians in the car was held as witness while the other one ran away after the incident.
"We will continue to find and investigate the civilian who ran away, because he was in the same car with the victim when the shooting occurred," Supiadin said, adding that the disappeared civilian was a member of the Aceh Transitional Committee (KPA).
