The Millbrae BART station is closed after a suspicious package was found on the Caltrain side of the station. The package was spotted on a San Mateo County District Transit District bus. The possible bomb threat prompted the closure at 6:20 pm.

Commuters are advised to use parallel bus service to get to Millbrae from the San Bruno and San Francisco International Airport BART stations.

We will update as more information becomes available. Please comment if you have first-hand information!

UPDATE: The suspicious package was "deemed harmless" and operation has resumed, station reopened.

This is about a weekly event on some BART station here. Last time it was gym clothes in  a backpack left by a worker on his way home from happy hour in the Financial District. We can't let down our guard, but if you look hard there is at least one 'suspicious' looking detritus at every station on BART and I would think that is not unique to here, just BART police are jumpy after the Oakland shootings etc

Guess it's kind of like fire alarms.. hope it's nothing. I wonder what these "suspicious packages" actually look like. Thanks for the info rng.
