Miss Hampton 2009 Nikole Churchill: Pics of New Homecoming Queen

Nikole Churchill was recently named Miss Hampton 2009, a move that has stirred up some controversy at Hampton University. Churchill if the first non-African American homecoming queen in Hampton University history. Nikole Churchill has faced some opposition from vocal students, so much so that she wrote a letter to US President Barack Obama about her homecoming victory and its aftermath.

As winner of the Miss Hampton 2009 pageant, Nikole Churchill will serve as the Hampton homecoming queen. While many applauded Nikole Churchill's victory as a symbol of the school's diversity, others complained that she didn't reflect the school's student body.

Another issue is that Nikole Churchill doesn't attend the school's main campus. Instead, Churchill attends the school's Virginia Beach campus, which only has around 90 students.

Some associated with Hampton Universtiy stated their displeasure by walking out of the theatre when Churchill was crowned Miss Homecoming 2009. Message boards and social networking sites were also filled with comments from people on both sides of the debate.
