Carrie Mae Stoudemire, who is the mother of Phoenix Suns player Amar'e Stoudemire, was arrested on Saturday May 15 when she failed to have an ignition interlock device on her car.

An ignition interlock device is installed on the dashboard of a car and before the car can be started the driver must blow in to it to make sure they are not over a blood alcohol level of 0.02% to 0.04%. If the person who blows in to the device is over this limit then the car will not start. They are required for people who have been repeatedly busted for driving under the influence.

According to the police report and The Arizona Republic, Carrie Mae Stoudemire was pulled over by police because her Lincoln Navigator was driving about 60mph and straddling two lanes. She told police that she had rented the car and did not know she required an ignition interlock device. According to her license she is required to have one on every vehicle she drives until October 30.

Ms. Stoudemire told police she was on her way to an alcohol class, but as her eyes looked watery, she did not have the device on her car, and refused to take a sobriety test, she was put in the back of the police car.

A few minutes later, according to the report, Amar'e Stoudemire and another man arrived at the scene in a Bentley convertible.

Carrie Stoudemire began to yell "Amar'e!" several times and asked for a lawyer, the police report said..

She has now been charged with speeding, failure to drive in a single lane, and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device. She has also been in jail many times for charges such as drug possession and prostitution.
