Missing NIU Student Toni Keller's Case Now a Homicide
Police Have Not Been Able to Say Whether the Remains Found in a DeKalb Park is That of Missing NIU Student Antinette 'Toni' Keller
Police have not been able to determine the identity of the body found, because the remains were so badly burned according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The remains were found a week ago, but police had to determine if the remains were human or animal.
Toni Keller went missing a few weeks ago and the missing Northern Illinois University student's disappearance has now become a homicide investigation, mostly due to the items found near the remains. The burned remains were found near items that are consistent with those owned by Toni reports DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen.
“Forensic experts have identified the remains as human. Whether these remains are Toni’s or not, could take some time’’ to determine,
Toni Keller was last seen on October 14 when she told friends she was going to a park located south of NIU's campus.
Friends of the missing student are angered that police waited so long to tell them they had found remains.
“A bunch of us do feel like we were duped. We were puppets being used for their own advantage,’’ junior Jasmine Roberts said of police withholding the information.
Police do believe this is an isolated incident.
