Moderate quake strikes north of Andaman Islands

Indian Met department has said that a moderate earthquake struck northern parts of Andaman islands early this morning.

The tremor measuring 5.4 on the Richter Scale was felt at 02:00 hrs (IST) at latitude 13.7 degree north and longitude 92.9 degree east.

There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties and no tsunami warning was immediately issued.



A moderate earthquake struck north of India's Andaman Islands early Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.

The 5.2-magnitude quake hit at 01:59 am (2029 GMT Wednesday) at a depth of 35 kilometres.

The quake's epicentre was just over 200 kilometres north of the archipelago which lies in the Bay of Bengal, the USGS said.

There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties, and no tsunami warning was immediately issued.
