Asyraf Haziq is the Young Man Mugged in London Riot Video

We first saw him as the kid who was helped to his feet by London rioters, who then robbed him. Now we know who he is. Mohammad Asyraf Haziq (also presented as Ashraf Haziq) is a 20-year-old accounting student from Malaysia.

The video only captures part of the story, but the rest is just as bad: Mohammad Asyraf Haziq was surrounded by a group of youths in Barking, East London, some of whom were preteens. They jumped Haziq and beat him, breaking his jaw. The youths then stole his bike and his mobile phone, leaving him in the street.

That's when the now-viral video starts, with looters helping Haziq up, then rooting through is backpack and stealing its contents.

"They threatened to stab me," he explains in Malaysian. "They told me they had knives. Some of them were quite young and may still be in primary school."

Campaign to Help Mohammad Asyraf Haziq

Youth worker James Cowan set up a website to get some help for young man: Let's Do Something Nice for Ashraf Haziq.
