The photo was posted by Sinyi88.
The Nanjing explosion and fire occurred as workers were tearing down an abandoned plastics factory.
The explosion reportedly occurred when a pipeline carrying ethylene gas was damaged while workers using diggers were dismantling buildings and retrieving parts that could be resold, Xinhua news agency reported.
The leaking gas was ignited when a nearby motorist started their car engine, according to the local work safety administration.
Police have arrested three construction contractors and a factory official responsible for work safety at the site, Xinhua said.

That's not true I have had that photo for at least a year! A monkey may have saved a puppy but this is not the photo of it.

Why were monkey and puppy IN the factory/mill??
at 12:36 on August 2nd, 2010
If this is not from the Plant explosion, how does one know the monkey is even saving the puppy. Could be taking it somewhere private to chew on it's liver. Or worse! Need I remind everyone of what the chimp did to the frog? (You tube chimp and frog if you don't know what I'm talking about.

This photo has been circulating the internet for quite some time. It was not taken during the Nanjing explosion. Some posts show the photo as early as 2006.Reference: www.hongfire.com/cg/showphoto.php?photo=26851&title=monkey-puppy-thief&cat=511

@Brad - Do you actually believe that humans are not as vulgar, and far more so, than that chimp. Get off your high horse.

Well Monkeys are very astute creatures. He would hardly want to save any f*g chinese.Gods creatures continue to show us how to live But we are to busy making money and Raping our world I hope both survived any human intervention.unless it was to love and care for them Not to have your head sliced open .So you could eat his brains out. while still alive. As for the puppy he would be skinned alive then bashed to death. then eaten

You are so right!

@Marie - If you're going to play the holier-than-thou card (as you no doubt do often), you can't blatantly stereotype the Chinese as savages who aren't worth saving. There are more than 1.3 billion people living in China plus the expats living abroad, don't base your opinion on the leaders of their govt and the kindergarden murderers. Even though the rest of the world has stereotyped the US as arrogant righteous bastards (based on everyone else of course, not you), it doesn't make you right in compounding things. And yes, I grasp the irony that my rebuke of her is also self-righteous but someone had to say something.

thx for the clarification about the origin of the - but either way it is monkey carrying a dog which is compelling

"Compelling"? Is that an excuse for allowing outright lies? If so, it's a pretty lax way of running a news site.I get that when you "crowdsource" journalism, things like this will pop up from time to time.. but as staff, isn't it your job to remove blatantly false stories? It would be equally "compelling" to write an article with a photoshopped image of Obaa making out with a stripper. Since it would be so intriguing to your readers, does that mean it should be allowed? Where do you draw the line between what made-up "news" is okay and what isn't?Even your own FAQ says fictitious and irrelevant content is 'verbotten':www.nowpublic.com/newsroom/community/faq#faq-03

And there we have it, the essence of journalism. It may not be true, but that's not what's important. It'll 'compel' people to read it (read: buy our product and present us as a good choice from which to purchase advertising space). What a ridiculously disingenuous stance to take.

Lol.. i bet the monkey deserves a reward hahahaXD cos.. if u c closely... there would be many people running pass by the puppy.. they woudlnt care for this little puppy .. but when this *monkey.. just a MONKEY.. saw this puppy .. it went saving it.. those ppl are sou selfless.. but i guess most of us would be.. cos .. like all of us would think. OMG and explosion then ppl would start shouting and bla bla bla.. this monkey.. is reli .. reli.. well gifted haha

If u look closely at this monkey, that is not the look of love in his eyes. It is hunger. And should I remind all that the chinese do and always have eaten everything including bird spit. I imagine the monkey is as hungry as the rest of asia.

I think I'm more appalled at the blatant racism in some of these comments than the fabrication of the article itself.

Everybody looks at a photo that comes from nowhere and make up some stories about it. The good hearted people make up good stories, bad hearted people make up bad stories, that's it.
