Xiahe is a half bland modern Han chinese town, and half tibetan town, with literally a clear line marking the two. At the edge of the town, just beyond this hill in the photograph is the Labrang Monastry. Labrang is one of the six great monastries of the Gelug (yellow hat) sect. Labrang was at the center of the monk upring in March 2008. Xiahe is about 3,000m, situated at the end of a 9hour bumpy road from Lanzhou. Fantastic location, in the Gansu province, just at the edge of the TAR.

This photo shows two monks looking down on the town of Xiahe and the Labang monasteries - one of the most important in the yellow hat sect of tibetan buddhism. Xiahe is the south of the Gansu province, boadering the Tibetan Autonomous Zone. It situated in a stunning location as you can see. Labrang and Xiahe were at the centre of the Tibetan protests in March 2008.
