Food Crisis is deepening, more that one billion people go to bed, sorry  they don't have even bed, with hungry stomach. The trade negotiations on agriculture, are focused on economic aspect of making profit. How this crisis will be solved, no body knows, because mother nature says i can't produce more, you have to learn how to mange and share the resources. Unfortunately we lost our capacity to understand language of nature.

Targets to cut the number of hungry people in the world will not be met without greater international effort, UN food agencies have warned.

The UN's annual report on global food security confirms that more than one billion people - a sixth of the world's population - are undernourished.

It says the number of hungry people was growing before the economic crisis, which has made the situation worse.

The report comes ahead of World Food Day on Friday.

"No nation is immune and, as usual, it is the poorest countries and the poorest people that are suffering the most," said the annual report of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme.

The FAO says Asia and the Pacific has the largest number of hungry people - 642 million - followed by Sub-Saharan Africa with 265 million

Is this because the planet doesn't have enough food?

Or not enought birth control? Bet I will get in trouble for this one - but someone has to bring it up.

Do you solve the problem on the outside or do you get to the root?

It is Malthusian Paradox. Resource management is not an one end approach, it is all about the both end, demand as well as supply.

Does birth control produce necessities? How to produce necessities? Capitalism.

Birth control availability is an issue, but also there needs to be a change in the point of view  towards developing countries that supports self subsistence and infrastructure development that moves them toward independence, rather than dependence on foreign aid.  In crisis situations, the aid is necesary, but it should not overshadow the development of long term goals that provide education and jobs.  When men and women are educated and can work and realize success in their personal lives, birth control will not only be accepted, but it will be sought out by them.

Reasons for expanding family programs in developing countries: fertility rates still high, population momentum strong - increases the next 25-50 years, possible weakening of family programs, widespread preference for smaller families in developing countries, access to contraception will reduce abortions. Common barriers to the use of contraception: lack of knowledge about contraceptive methods and availability, and concern about health effects.

In a study released this week it was revealed that although increased contraceptive use has led to fewer abortions worldwide, deaths from unsafe abortions remain a severe problem, killing 70,000 women a year, a research institute reported Tuesday in a major global survey.

More than half the deaths, about 38,000, are in sub-Saharan Africa, which was singled out as the region with by far the lowest rates of contraceptive use and the highest rates of unintended pregnancies.

That is so many people; it is always the poorest countries that suffer the most.

Numbers are real, just imagine the condition in which any one die because he don't have food to eat.

The main problem is too many people.

Sometime soon there must be zero population growth,

One problem gives birth to another, because of faulty problem solving methodology. In one side we promote worldly resource exploitation and on other hand we teach save earth, later one is distant dream so people opt for first one.

Indeed the main problem is too many people. Don't give financial help to poor nations, because the money disappears in the corrupt pockets of the authorities. When people get food without to work for it, they consequently breed more off-spring, because they are not kept busy enough. Self sustaining development is the only solution. Let them learn to breed chickens and so on. Initial limited financial is o.k. but it has to be brought by others to avoid misuse. Let young people from the developed world on a two years stint help to develop the underdeveloped as a substitute for mandatory military service. In my youth we had to spent two years in the army, whether we liked or not. Discipline was taught with the result less riots and delinquencies. If stimulus money has to be spend do it in this kind of projects.
