NP Rank:
More Sri Lankan displaced go home
Two thousand people are being resettled in their villages in Sri Lanka's north-west after being displaced by the civil war, which ended in May.
The group is the third and largest batch resettled so far as part of an ongoing programme in Sri Lanka's north.
Although they are returning to their original home areas in the Mannar district, some of their homes would be rebuilt, officials told the BBC.
More than 250,000 people are still being kept in government-run camps.

The 2,120 Tamils and Muslims being resettled represent another step towards what the government calls a "northern spring", a return to normality in the large portion of the country which was affected by the war.
A resettlement ministry official told the BBC that the government was helping provide items like fishing nets and boats, irrigation tanks and gardening goods.
The UN refugee agency is monitoring the return process and assisting with water and sanitation
Work is being carried out by the Government of Sri Lanka to re-settle those displaced due terrorism in Sri Lanka. Resettling displaced people cannot be as quick as some staunch critics would want it to be.
The most technologically advanced and resourceful country, the USA is still trying to resettle people who were displaced during Hurricane Katrina which hit the shores of that country in 2005.
The refugee problem due to the Taliban war is growing day by day. The resettlement cannot be even thought of, and the efforts to do so are in shambles. Some of the African and Middle Eastern countries have worse refugee problems, but nobody talks about them.
It is very heartenening to note that the Sri Lanka Government is doing a good job at a terrific pace to settle the refugees. However, the vetting process of these refugees is a difficult one. The Governmant of Sri Lanka must ensure that the LTTE cadres now hiding among the IPDs, pretending that they did not have anything to do with the war should be weeded out, rehabilitated and then resettled. Already, there are hundreds of such LTTE cadres who have been detected at IDP camps, apprehended and being made ready for rehabilitation and resettlement.

This is good news. This would not please the cynics and the few LTTE propagandanists.
Navaneetham Pillay can at least now concentrate a bit of her time towards other burning issues in the rest of the world.

Well there's a bridge and there's a river that I still must cross
As I'm going on my journey
Oh, I might be lost
And there's a road I have to follow, a place I have to go
Well no-one told me just how to get there
But when I get there I'll know
Cuz I'm taking it
Chorus:
Step By Step, Bit by Bit,
Stone By Stone (Yeah), Brick by Brick (Oh, yeah)
Step By Step, Day By Day, Mile by mile (ooh, ooh, ooh)
And this old road is rough and ruined
So many dangers along the way
So many burdens might fall upon me
So many troubles that I have to face
Oh, but I won't let my spirit fail me
Oh, I won't let my spirit go
Until I get to my destination
I'm gonna take it slowly cuz I'm making it mine
Chorus:
Step By Step (you know I'm taking it), bit by bit (bit by bit, come move),
stone by stone (yeah), brick by brick (brick by brick by brick by brick mmm...)
Step by step (step by step uh-huh), day by day (day by day-ee),
mile by mile (ooh), go your own way.
Say it, baby, don't give up
You got to hold on to what you got,
Oh, baby, don't give up,
You got to keep on moving on don't stop (yeah yeah).
I know you're hurting, and i know you're blue,
i know you're hurting but don't let the bad things get to you.
Chorus:
I'm taking it step by step (ohohoh), bit by bit (bit by bit come move),
stone by stone (stone by stone yeah), brick by brick (brick by brick by brick by brick),
Step by step (i'm gonna take it now),day by day (day by day-ee),
mile by mile (ooh), go your own way!
(c'mon baby got to keep moving),
i'm taking it step by step), bit by bit,
stone by stone (yeah, stone by stone), brick by brick
c'mon baby,
step by step keep on moving, day by day (day by day-ee),
mile by mile by mile by mile,go your own way,
c'mon baby got to keep moving, bit by bit (bit by bit, bit by bit)....
