Morgan's Wonderland, a Park for Special Needs Children Opens April 10

When Morgan's Wonderland opens on April 10 it will be the first 'ultra-accessible family fun park' that caters to children and adults alike with special needs.

According to their website, the park is situated on 25 acres of land and welcomes people of all ages with special needs, as well as their families and caregivers and contains a number of activities, rides, adventures and shows for everyone to enjoy. It is an opportunity for familes with a special needs person to spend some quality time together in an environment that is designed especially for them.

Gordan Hartman developed the park, and it is named Morgan's Wonderland because of his 16-year-old daughter Morgan Hartman.

Morgan is very outgoing yet shy about certain things.  She recognizes her special needs and at times wishes she “were another kid,” but even so, she never forgets to be kind, thoughtful and witty…something we all wish we could achieve more often.

Mr. Hartman said that his daughter inspired him to develop this park because when she was sick in the ICU unit she was such an inspiration to everyone and she still wanted to spread joy that Mr. Hartman wanted to do that for other families.

“The park is about inclusion,” said Mr. Hartman, who built it at a cost of $32.5 million. “It’s about developing a park where special-needs kids come first.”

The park is 100 percent wheelchair accessible and admission is free for anyone with special needs and children under 3. The admission is $5 for everyone else, however reservations are required.

What a wonderful idea, more things like this need to be thought up and put in to place to give the opportunity to special needs groups to enjoy the things the rest of us take for granted.

Thanks for this Amy.
