Compared with last year’s six foot drifts, this was a baby snow. Yet, there are many closings and late starts this morning. The President made it home last night just before the heaviest dump clogged the freeway. He couldn’t chopper in last night.

See the pictures from this morning. One of the best pictures was in the Washington Post this morning showing a guy running coatless with an ice cream cone in the snowstorm. He must work for Social Security.

The snow was accompanied by lightning and thunder.

Back to work everybody, until tomorrow’s follow-up storm.

By Ashley Halsey III and Carol Morello

Washington Post Staff Writer

The Washington region struggled to regain its footing Thursday morning after a winter storm that caused at least one death and left the area icy and snowed-under, prompting local governments and schools to close for the day, public transportation to limit service and repair crews to scramble to restore electricity for hundreds of thousands left in the dark by snapped power lines.”
