The Most Popular Baby Names of 2009 Have Been Released

In what may come as a bit of a surprise, the most popular baby names of 2009 are still Jacob and newcomer Isabella, so for now the 'Isabellas' and 'Jacobs' of the world reign supreme.

The study, conducted by the Social Security Administration, found that 22,000 parents named their newborn baby girls Isabella last year, making that name the most popular and knocking the previous winner Emma off the top spot.

Jacob has been the most popular boys name for 11 years in a row, so parents have managed to keep that name going strong.

The top 10 girls names remained the same, except for number 10; the name Mia replaced the ever-popular Elizabeth to take the last spot.

In the top 10 boys names, Jayden was a new addition at number 8, and Noah was a new addition at number 9, knocking out the more traditional Christopher and Matthew.

Popular culture had some hand in the new names becoming more popular however. The name Cullen for a boy moved from 782 to 485 after the popularity of Edward Cullen from the Twilight books.

Malia and Sasha Obama also had a hand in changing the list as Malia went from 296 to 192 and Sasha went from 362 to 261.

Both fared better than mom and dad. Barack barely cracked the top 2,000 boys' names, while Michelle was down a spot to No. 104.
