The future mother-in-law of Bristol Palin, Sherry Johnston, mother of Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol Palin's baby, has been arrested in Alaska on drug charges.

Bristol Palin is due to give birth to her baby this weekend, and she and Levi Johnston plan to marry in the future.

Sherry Johnston, 42, was taken into custody at her home in Wasilla, Alaska, on Thursday after an undercover narcotics investigation, Alaska State Troopers said in a statement.

She faces six counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance, said trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters. She was released on $5,000 bail shortly after her arrest. All the charges are felonies.

Update:

The charges Sherry Johnston were arrested on are in relation to the drug oxycontin.

Little additional information was available Friday on the case as authorities remained unusually tight-lipped about details. But Palmer court records listed her scheduled court date and a troopers spokeswoman said in a release late Friday afternoon that the charges "are in relation to the drug oxycontin."

Johnston has not responded to phone messages or requests for comment left at the family home off Wasilla-Fishhook Road. Nobody answered the door there Thursday.

Normally, troopers release limited information about such arrests, including the kind of drugs involved and the amount.

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters wouldn't say Friday if there were other potential defendants involved.

Troopers served the warrant at Johnston's home at the "conclusion of an undercover narcotics investigation," said a statement issued Thursday by the troopers as part of the normal daily summary of activity around the state.

Troopers charged Johnston with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance -- generally manufacturing or delivering drugs -- as well as fourth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, or possession.

Troopers released no other information, including the kind or amount of drugs, because details could jeopardize an ongoing investigation, spokeswoman Megan Peters said.

Asked how long the investigation had proceeded before Johnston's arrest, Peters would only say "a while."

When asked about the arrest, Palin's spokesman, Bill McAllister, issued the following statement by e-mail: "This is not a state government matter. Therefore the governor's communications staff will not be providing comment or scheduling interview opportunities."

So much for a picture of wholesomeness, I was, however, hoping that these people would fade away.

So?

McCain's wife probably did the same things when she was addicted to pain killers...when are people going to realize that some leaders who blame the Afghani poppy fields for today's drug problems are NOT looking at the big picture. I mean, this country never sees opium unless there is a war somewhere and it's smuggled MORE than when at peace.

Sheesh.

Give me poppies any day over Big Pharma.

Would this mean Sarah Palin "pals around with drug addicts?"

Seriously, though, that's some pretty heavy stuff, a painkiller prescribed to cancer patients.  It's worth big money on the street.  Does "delivering drugs" mean selling them?

Oh no, empty, baseless character attacks by association don't apply when the shoe is on the other foot.
