'Mother' held in Shannon inquiry

Police probing the alleged abduction of Shannon Matthews have arrested a woman in West Yorkshire on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

There are unconfirmed reports that the 32-year-old is Shannon's mother Karen but these are yet to be verified.

Meanwhile, the man accused of abducting the nine-year-old has been treated in hospital after what the authorities said was a "serious case of self harm".

Michael Donovan, 39, is now back in Leeds prison on remand awaiting trial.
