Mountain Fund Sew4Good event on National Day of Service
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is also the US National Day of Service. According to MLKDay.gov, more than 13,000 people chose to celebrate by volunteering, doubling last year's number.
The Mountain Fund had its own day of service here in Albuquerque with a "Sew4Good" event. Sew4Good is a Mountain Fund program that donates jackets to Sherpa porters in Nepal. A company that sews college logos on jackets send the cosmetic seconds to us. If they make a mistake with the sewing, the color, the spelling, etc., the jackets become useless for them, but are still in perfectly good condition. All we have to do is sew patches over the labels they have sewn on. TMF now has about 400 jackets!
Seven volunteers stopped by on 20 January to help sew patches for six hours. Four of them were part of the International Leadership Training program - a program for college students which promotes world citizenship and helps to build leadership skills in a multicultural society.
We will now be able to send these jackets to Nepal.

I did not know that the US had a day of service. Nepal can use all the help it can get and those Jackets will certainly help.
