Rep_ Virginia Foxx - Matthew Shepard's Death Not A Hate Crime

"I also would like to point out that there was a bill -- the hate crimes bill that's called the Matthew Shepard bill is named after a very unfortunate incident that happened where a young man was killed, but we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery. It wasn't because he was gay. This -- the bill was named for him, hate crimes bill was named for him, but it's really a Hoax that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills."

Yes, and they were apprehended and sent to prison. So, why do we need a "hate crimes" bill?

When Bush was governor of Texas, Texas executed the white supremacist who participated in the dragging death of a black man. Hate crime legislation supporters were vocal critics of Bush for not going along with hate crimes legislation.

What would hate crimes legislation have accomplished? You can only execute once.

There are many more black-on-white crimes than white-on-black crimes among young people. Whether these crimes are "hate crimes" or not, you run the risk of making every crime between the races a race crime with added sentencing, and the losers will be young black men like the young black men I used to teach in Central Juvenile Hall in Los Angeles.

From 1976 to 2005 --

  • 86% of white victims were killed by whites
  • 94% of black victims were killed by blacks
