As part of his regular ‘Work Experience’ programme, Reading East MP, Rob Wilson, spent Monday at the offices of the Reading Evening Post, gaining a valuable insight into the world of journalism.

He spent the day writing news stories and even edited an article by neighbouring MP, John Redwood. However, his most treasured moment of the day was when he was asked to present the weather forecast for the newspaper’s website.

“I have always wanted to present the weather,” Rob remarked, “I had a really enjoyable day at the Evening Post and saw just how much hard work goes into producing our local daily newspaper. I have been undertaking these work experience visits for two years now and it is a fantastic learning experience that means I will never get trapped in the Westminster bubble.”

Amongst Rob’s many previous jobs are refuse collector, postal worker, teaching assistant, supermarket checkout assistant, charity shop worker and PCSO. Next month Rob will be working in a local fast food restaurant.
