Mr. And Mrs. America . . . do you have any idea?
Mr. and Mrs. America . . . do you have any idea as to what the Washington D.C. political establishment has been up to lately?
In other words, do you have any idea as to what your politicians (whether they be Democrats or Republicans) are up to lately and the consequent affect upon your country as a result of their recent activities and proposed legislation? If you do, then please fill me in, because I'm at a loss to even begin to make heads or tails of it!
There's so much information out there nowadays, about the political world, that one would think it a simple matter to get a handle on how each proposed piece of legislation, put forth by America's politicians, will affect the state of the nation and the lives of every American. But for many of us, it seems that the more we read and the better informed we become (about what the boys and girls in D.C. are up to), the less any of it makes any sense!
About the only explanation that I can come up with, to explain the nonsense, is that the US House and US Senate have been turned into insane asylums under cover of dark by evil doers. HA! And, today, as a result, the halls of congress and the senate have only two rows: One row is for the nuts on the left and the other row is for the nuts on the right. There's no longer any middle row, and as a result the only ones running the asylum are the inmates. JEEZ! How did that happen? And do you think that it can't happen here?

Are you talking about all the decisions in Washington in general or a particular bill or law?

amyjudd: In general but with a few qualifications! America has been divided throughout most of ts existence, e.g. the civil war, etc. and therefore no one should be surprised that divisions exist nowadays. And the assertion, on the part of some, that congressional and senate debate, today, has taken on an uncommon and uncivil tone, and has no precedent in American history, is flat-out wrong and many of us know that. I'm certain that a number of congressmen and senators, today, have drafted well thought-out bills that are of benefit to most Americans and that are not just for the benefit and self-interests of their constituents. But in my untutored/average-American opinion,it seems that before those bills reach the president's desk, they bear no resemblance to the original/well thought-out bills. America is now part of, and subject to, the global community--for better or for worse depending upon one's point of view. Indeed the days of Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln--two presidents that defended America at all costs--are long over. It is my belief that all too many law-makers, nowadays, rely more upon the world's input and the lobbyist's input, as opposed to the American people's input, when it comes to passing legislation. The US congress was originally set up, under the constitution, as "the people's house" comprised of average Americans, serving two-year terms. However nowadays the US congress is comprised of fat-cats and fat-chicks, that live high off the hog at the taxpayer's expense, and pass laws that are of benefit solely to them. It is obvious, to many Americans, that members of congress serve because it's a good gig with good perks. Today's members of the congress and senate are no different from the CEOs of major American (bailed-out) corporations. Namely, they've convinced the American people that they're smarter and better than anyone else and that they're worth ever penny that they're paid, due to their genius and unique talent.
