Mubarak Resigns? Al Arabiya Retracts Report Feb 5 2011
Has Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak Resigned?
On Al Arabiya TV reported on Saturday Feb. 5 that Egypt's president Hosni Mubarak had resigned as head of the ruling party.
Other major networks quickly picked up the news and Twitter lit up with reports that he had in fact resigned.
However, Al Arabiya has now retracted that statement and it appears that Mubarak has not resigned at this time.
Al Jazeera is reporting:
he leadership of Egypt's ruling National Democratic Party resigns, including Gamal Mubarak, the son of Hosni Mubarak. The new secretary general of the party is Hossam Badrawi, seen as a member of the liberal wing of the party.
Earlier today, Egyptian military tried to encourage protestors to leave Tahrir Square, but they merely chanted 'we are not leaving, he [Mubarak] is leaving.'
