Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster says that authorities have identified at least 45 homes in the Prosperity section that suffered damage during the storms Saturday. He said that the damage ranged from minor in some cases to completely destroyed for one home.
Foster also said that the South Carolina Highway 391 area would remain closed to anyone other than the property owners of that area. Foster said that the highway is barricaded and detours are posted. Anyone, other than property owners, found in the area will be subject to be stopped and escorted from the area.
The National Weather Service confirmed at least eight tornado touchdowns. Five were rated as the second-weakest on the scale for measuring tornadoes. The rest were the weakest.
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The WIS News 10 Storm Team is tracking some strong storms moving through the state.
WIS Storm Alert Meteorologist Brooks Garner says a tornado watch has been issued for the Midlands, through 7pm. This means that conditions are ripe for tornadoes to develop within any severe thunderstorms that form. [Read Brooks' blog]

Prosperity, The town featured in our footage, Hardest Hit by the Multiple Tornadoes that hit South Carolina on March 15, 2008
Prosperity is a quaint family community with about 1100 residents. We are located in southern Newberry County, about 7 miles from the large recreational Lake Murray, which has about a 500-mile shoreline.
The Town government has just moved into a newly renovated 100-year old school building. Having the Town Offices and the Police Department located under this roof is truly an asset to the area. Upon completion the building will also house an auditorium and a gymnasium.
Prosperity is a Town that is composed of numerous 100- year old homes that have been handed down through generations. Our growing community has several new housing developments. We have a thriving Business District that includes banks, restaurants, antique stores, general home supply stores, and interior design shop, furniture stores, florist shops, hardware & building supply, auto parts, gas stations, fitness club, beauty shops, tractor repair, meat plant and a super grocery store. We have churches of different denominations. Our schools and teachers are of the highest ratings in the state. Our recreation for our youth is known as one of the best.

We are fine, A bit hairy for a bit. The ground looked as if it had snowed with quarter sized hail and soon... rain took it all away. The Tonado was to our south and to our NorthEast. There wer 8 - 16 torandoes. We think as we reveiwed the paths that some of the storms just hopped so I am sure it was more like 6-8
