I am of the strong belief that we have a very corrupt, overcrowded, underpaid, understaffed, under educated (staff) prison system.
Start at the root with the prison having accessibility and the individuals working there that WANT to help criminals reinvent and better themselves so they can live productively in society when they are released.
Especially in this case, a child! The entire goal of juvenile detection is rehabilitation!

DETROIT - A man charged with murder at age 11 who spent the rest of his childhood in custody was arrested Friday on a drug charge after undercover officers allegedly caught him selling at a gas station, police said.
Nathaniel Abraham, 22, was picked up about 1 a.m. in his hometown of Pontiac and charged with possession with intent to deliver narcotics.
As a baby-faced sixth grader, Abraham shot and killed a stranger who was leaving a Pontiac convenience store. He was convicted of second-degree murder at age 13 in the slaying of Ronnie Greene and was released from juvenile custody in January 2007.
Police said Abraham was in possession of 254 pills they believe were Ecstasy.Plainclothes officers said they saw what they believe to be a hand-to-hand drug sale between Abraham and a person on a bicycle.
Abraham became the first young person charged with murder to be prosecuted under a 1997 Michigan law that allowed adult prosecutions of children of any age in a serious felony case. Abraham was convicted as an adult but sentenced as a juvenile.
Since his release, Abraham has taken college classes, spoken at churches and schools and recorded a rap album.

Michelle Says So, I totally agree about the prison system. In this case rehabilitation does not equal low recidivism.

Are you kidding me? This kid had 20 plus brushes with the allow prior to the murder. This kid has been exhibiting sociopathic behavior since he was young. Say what you want to about "the system", the onus on this belongs with the parents. Stop blaming the system. As a black man I am appalled by the amount of finger pointing that goes on when some kid is just inherently bad. Where is the outpouring of sympathy for the 18 year old kid that he murdered?

This kid is a bad seed. Let's hope they keep him in for the next 20 years. An evil kid, an evil adult.
