London Lehman office must diclose esposure, London finance district full hit...

The Financial Services Authority in London asked banks in the UK to disclose their exposure to Lehman.

The Lehman offices in the UK were essentially cut adrift and put into administration. There was an immediate ban on trading and staff were told to clear their desks. "It was surprisingly calm - there was a kind of blitz spirit in the sense that we were all in it together," one banker said. "It was made clear that there was no desire to have us hanging around."

Many have been told to return today for a briefing from the administrators. Employees hope to learn, among other things, whether they will receive monthly pay cheques due on September 21. "There's quite a lot of anger that things were allowed to get to this stage," he added.

Lehman bros New York:

Employees not yet sure, fear to ge not paid for 7 month, even if they find new Jobs

René,

"As recently as March, CEO Richard Fuld was awarded a $22 million bonus for 2007 --"

He'll retire to his yacht and cry crocodile tears, and before you know it he'll show up at the top of another corporation and do the same thing.

I keep trying to tell you all you've been had!

Not me. I don't have no mortgage or stocks. The SEC is the criminal colluder here. And that CEO, all the top execs, financial deciders, and all the board of directors too, should have all their assets frozen, charges filed against them and then assets confiscated.

'It is bad news for everyone. My career is screwed. Everyone is upset' Jack Reynolds, graduate trainee

The whiny 'me' generation complaining that they have to go through difficult times and someones not handing them the pampered life on a platter... I'm sure many would happily trade places with them and live the adversity instead of their own...makes me ill...

SOLARLIFE, I like this story. It's good stuff.  When these huge financial institutes fail it is bad news for all of us.  If a recession isn't coming, it sure is going to look like one.

Barbara,

We have been in a recession for almost a year already.  What is unfolding in the USA is no recession, but a full-blown depression, and one that could make 1929 look like a Sunday picnic.  George Bush and the others that created the mess are lying through the teeth when they talk about it as they are sorely afraid of what might happen to them should the taxpayers wake up and realize what has been done to them.

The difference for the rest of the planet is that Europe and Canada have never allowed the banking and mortgage systems to go out of control the same way as the totally deregulated USA, and many countries such as Russia and most of South America have moved away from the US economic dependency.

This will get bad for everyone, but the epicenter of this meltdown is the USA.

What, me worry ?
It'll all be the next guy's fault !!

What me Worry ?

A large Bush/Neuman poster was part of the Washington protests that accompanied Bush's 2001 inauguration. The alleged resemblance between the two has been noted more than once by Hillary Clinton. On July 10, 2005, speaking at the Aspen Institute's Ideas Festival, she said, "I sometimes feel that Alfred E. Neuman is in charge in Washington," referring to Bush's purported "What, me worry?" attitude.

  • "Getting old is when a narrow waist and a broad mind change places!"
  • "How come stealing from one book is plagiarism, but stealing from many is research?"
  • "Nowadays, a balanced diet is when every McNugget weighs the same!"
  • "Teenagers are people who act like babies if they're not treated like adults!"
  • "A teacher is someone who talks in our sleep!"
  • "How come we choose from just two people for President, and fifty for Miss America?"
