My Chinese New Year Education
I could have asked a friend and neighbor who has a good knowledge of China but instead relied on collected information.
For those of you who like myself have a no -existent to limited knowledge of the Chinese calendar, these few pointers from China Page bring some light on the Chinese New Year subject.
Here they are:
"There are three ways to name a Chinese year:
1. By an animal (like a mascot). 2008 was known as the Year of the Rat. 2009 is the Year of the Ox. There are 12 animal names; so by this system, year names are repeated every 12 years. More.
2. By its Formal Name (Stem-Branch). 2009 is the Year of Ji Chou. In the 'Stem-Branch' system, the years are counted in 60-year Cycles, so that the Name of the Year is repeated every 60 years. 2008 is the 9-th year in the current 60-year Cycle. 2009 is the 10-th year in the current 60-year Cycle. A "Cycle" is analogous to a "century" in the International Calendar system which is 100 years long.

I wish firecrackers were not banned at where I am. That would have been more fun & better ambiance! Than again, none Chinese wouldn't be able to sleep on Chinese New Year eve! LOL! =P
FYI, the Chinese years are arrange by the Chinese Zodiac in this order:
Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog & Boar.
Link with the Zodiac animals, are the 5 Elements in this order:
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water.
I would like to wish everyone A Happy & Prosperous Lunar New Year!
May the year of the Ox bring you much Happiness, Wealth & Good Health!

When I took the shot, I really did not know what the dial like pattern on the ground was, but it did not matter. Each piece of stone was so beautiful and the pattern it made was so striking, I could not walk over it like everyone else. I ended up laying down on the ground looking at it. Everyone looked at me as if I was insane, but when does a photographer care about that. The shot is always worth it.
Always notice the beauty around you, even the ones under your feet. That is my advice for everyone, no matter who you are.
