NP Rank:
My Lame-Duck, Status Quo Generation
We are the generation of complacency; we binge on pop culture and get buzzed as we inhale the fumes of our selfish superficial & materialistic addictions. We inject ourselves with the lure of instant gratification and when confronted by that moment of truth, that intervention, We lash out at those that dare expose our flaws, illuminate our inaction and hold us accountable. We have become the 'Status Quo' generation; the generation that has become morally, ethically, ideologically and sociologically stagnant; a stagnation that is as detrimental to the greater good & progress as still mosquito-infested waters are to a southern African village.
Accepting the 'status quo' is that girl that keeps running back to that abusive & cheating boyfriend when everyone else knows she should be walking away; NOT accepting the 'status quo' is her realizing that sometimes you have to let go and that love has more to offer than misery. Accepting the 'status quo' is that pandering republican congressman that tried defending the Tea Bag protesters that called Georgia Congressman John Lewis a N*gg*r and Massachusetts representative Barney Frank a f*gg*t; NOT accepting the 'status quo' is that great republican named Abraham Lincoln that stood up to the unjust nature of slavery; Accepting the 'status quo' is that young Zimbabwean that assumes Mugabe and his minions have changed their corrupt and tyrannical ways; NOT accepting the 'status quo' is that long walk to freedom Nelson Mandela embarked on; accepting the 'status quo' is what happened today when MSNBC reported that Democratic members that voted for health Care reform got assasination threats against their children; NOT accepting the 'status quo' is when Hillary Clinton, Europe and Dubai drew a line in the sand and told Israel "we support you" but enough is enough. Accepting the 'status quo' means you accept the world as it is; Darfur, Mexico's Drug Wars, Glen Beck and everything a good heart & mind should frown upon; NOT accepting the 'status quo' is realizing the world could be better and doing something about it without resortng to the same old tactics of intimidation and violence.
We are the generation that treads in the contaminated waters of the 'status quo'; waters infested by racism, bigotry, domestic violence, ignorance, uncompromising ideology. Our generation is a part of everything thats wrong with the world, the inablers of everything that is 'status quo'.
Sincerely yours,
Kwapi
