Pollution, pollution yep its disgusting and its happening every where, some of my neighbors here in the Philippines throw their rubbish in the local creek. The local Barangay Captain (Head Councilor of the area) sends a team weekly to clean the area up.

The problem is laziness or lack of education, now of course I live in a third world country, where a complete education can not be afforded by everyone.

The point I am really try to make people in countries that have a good educational system, where most people do achieve to receive a good education. Still seem to be a bit slow on the uptake about pollution.

We have Industrialist and Farmers that are polluting and do not care one bit even when told about the damage they are causing to our fragile earth. To them making money is more important. That factor can be seen all around the world.

It’s got so bad that Governments are now starting to stop pollution with regulations and trying to educate their citizens in methods to stop pollution etc.

The Governments have started to try to hide their un-successes by pointing to other countries pollution problems. Then some are giving non carbon omission pledges that are too low or higher than their administration could achieve.

Someone pointed me to this article in the examiner today that I thought would be interesting within my daily rant..

The Climate change summit in Copenhagen next week will see all non western countries point to us as the bad guys.  Climate change, though serious, have many looking to U.S. President Barak Obama as the environmental Dali Lama.

Western nations, including Canada's Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper are seen as not holding up their end of the climate change bargain.  One can be certain the cleanup of the Alberta Oil Sands (implemented in 1980 by Federal Liberal Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau's government as their National Energy Program legacy) will be front and centre. There will be demands placed on Prime Minister Harper and the Canadian taxpayer to clean up the sins of our liberal forefathers.

Media reports from around the world always seem to place blame to western countries like the USA and Canada. Of course many of these countries are recipients of our generous scientific advances, not to mention the billions in aid to assist them in their food production and climate change goals.

My opinion is that world citizen can actual do a lot such as recycle rubbish as I do, I even make my own organic fertilizer to use on my vegetable garden.

I am shortly buying a electric scooter and late next year I hope to be able to afford to go solar power. The local electricity supply here on Negros is mix of geothermal and coal power, it may go completely geothermal in the near future. But I would like to be self sufficient my present motor bike will only be used for long journeys.

I try not to use plastic bags in fact the ones I used are used over and over again.

The article I have just read has geared me to buy only local farm products and Filipino rice. I am going to make an effort of only buying Filipino produced food products.  Even my coffee, Filipino coffee is actually very nice and I can grow it in my own garden.

I am glad to see that USA is joining in cleaning up its act, that Canada will clean up its Oil Sands. To me it does not matter if there is truth in the climate change theories, but it does matter that we citizens of the world clean up our act. That we citizen look after the other species, that share this world with us. Its all about being responsible and people can still make money.

Yep! Filipino coffee sure tastes nice

I don't care what any one believes or thinks, I just want clean air and a very clean environment. I mean to do my bit, been doing so for a very, very long time.

The Philippines is getting better, my area is mostly clean and green, but the less educated still drop litter and dump rubbish in the local creek not so many these days.

Recycling with a blue box program has been going on in Alberta, at least Edmonton, since the 80s.

Alberta is also doing its bit as far as the oilsands is concerned.

What will be interesting to see is what of substance comes out of Copenhagen or will it just be more empty words and promises?

Canada signed up to Kyoto under the previous Liberal government, but lo and behold under the environment conscious Liberals the the carbon emissions increased by 20%.

The engagement of Canadians to the environment is also questionable.  It is widely believed that Stefan Dione, then Leader of the Liberals, lost the election because of his carbon tax policy.  The environment seems to be important to people until their pocketbook is hit.

The B.C. government recently institued a cap and trade system and there seems to be a lot of whining about it because of the increase in prices at the pumps.

I see the engagement on issues of the environment every weekend out here in the country, when people come to run their four wheelers (quads) or snowmobiles.  Garbage and broken bottles are all over the roads.  I guess that way it.s not in their backyards.

This has been addressed with county officials and provincial transportation and wildlife officials to no avail.

My point is, it is not enough for politicians to be engaged, it requires the engagement of the public in general.

When we stop giving publicity to people like Al Gore, then we will have made some progress.  Many people are working to make a difference, people like Gore who lead a lavish and wasteful lifestyle have no business lecturing anybody about climate change.
