I have seen the mysterious fireballs many times in Nova Scotia, no one really knows what they are. The ones I have seen just drop straight down from the sky into the horizon. I have not seen them streak across the sky as described here.

sara star, the multi-colored ones are probably re-entering space debris from our artificial satellites. The ones coming straight down are probably larger pieces from the current meteor shower. They can light up the night sky for an instant. Sometimes they have an audible explosion.
