What could be more disappointing in the Philippines besides your elected officials engaged in graft and corruption? It's a Billion priced project payed by Filipino citizens from their taxes that would turn out "falling" from expectations.

The NAIA terminal 3 is an extension terminal to the already existing terminals 1 and 2. It's projected completion was 2002 but due to several issues with it's construction it became an idle project for years. When some issues were settled they announced its opening with great pride. Even I was expecting that much from the bragging "modern terminal".

But some days before it opened the last March 2007, they found flaws in the structure that delayed the fabulous opening day.

03/06/2007

The much-trumpeted opening of the controversial Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s (NAIA) Terminal 3 has been postponed anew as structural defects were detected in the idle facility scheduled to partially operate by the end of the month.

After six years of delay and Millions more added to the budget for repair it finally opened last July 22, 2008. Many were excited with the newly opened terminal only be dismayed. A portion of the ceiling just fell, it was a good thing though that nobody was hurt or injured.

After going through a number of embarrassment since opening last July, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 faced yet another humiliation before dawn Wednesday when a part of the ceiling collapsed.

It was not just only once that the terminals ceiling fell.To this extent the president herself went and tried the terminal.(the just like walking to a park type of inspection)

These kinds of projects given enough time can cause injuries or even deaths. This terminal should be given much more attention than just "publicity stunts" from bragging politicians.

When you visit the Philippines.. Watch out for falling ceilings!

francisrivera, I like this story. "When you visit the Philippines.. Watch out for falling ceilings!"  I can honestly say that I have had no trouble with falling ceilings over the past eight years I have lived in the Philippines. But I used to keep banging my head as many things are built for shorter people here. lol.

The new teminal at the airport has been one big headache a complete political mess up. But such delay probaly saved someones life, god works in mysterous ways, lol.

Thank for the GS and the comment Babel! I agree with you! The delay must have really been some act of God for the best. And I'm so sorry for the head bumps ( lol ), this bigger terminal has higher ceiling though.
