Wed, 24 Sep 2008 22:43:49 GMT The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has voiced support for Iran's nuclear rights and urged a diplomatic solution to the country's nuclear issue. The 118-member bloc in a statement issued in the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors on Wednesday supported Iran's nuclear drive, IRNA reported. The Cuban envoy to the board of governors who read the statement said, “The statement was issued and ratified in the NAM ministerial meeting held in Tehran on 27-30 June.” The statement hailed Iran's observance of the Safeguards Agreement. NAM also voiced support for the inalienable right of all countries to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and stressed that discrimination should not hinder exercising this right.
The group also reiterated that the decisions made by world countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, about the peaceful use of nuclear energy and their policies towards the nuclear fuel cycle should be respected. “The NAM member states also called for continued negotiation and diplomacy to find a peaceful solution to Iran's nuclear issue,” the statement concluded.
